Elect Anny Scoones
I have lived on the Peninsula most of my adult life and reside on a small farm in Saanichton, near the Fairgrounds.
Here are my views on several significant issues:
- Preservation of Agricultural lands and the protection of the farming sector (both large and small) from encroaching development. To consider and support innovative agricultural endeavours and appropriate agri-businesses.
- To stop overbuilt, over height and out of character, invasive development and to adhere to the urban containment boundary; to support local businesses within the boundary.
- Enhance our village centres, and consider housing options such as co-op housing complexes.
- Financial Responsibility: I believe that if “it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. We need to assess and focus on crucial needs (replacement of infrastructure and public safety) and achieve creative ways to save costs on things we desire. To stabilize Central Saanich’s expenditures by preventing further debt and higher property taxes.
- I personally will vote against a financial raise for Council should the vote take place; in my view, being on Council is not a job, it is Public Service.
- Face to Face: I am of the view that face to face, over coffee, perhaps at my farm office, is the most beneficial method to hear and discuss the concerns and creative ideas of all constituents of all ages and backgrounds. Call it old fashioned, but it works; I will respond to every inquiry. It’s amazing the ideas that can occur with patient, respectful and thoughtful conversation.
- To support and create local environmental policies that enhance and maintain our green spaces, water courses and shores, and to strengthen and support (create) the advisory commissions/committees (Heritage, Environmental, Advisory Planning, Agricultural etc.). The professionals on these committees provide Council with expert advice and ideas for no fee!

Anny Scoones
Background
I served on North Saanich’s municipal Council from 2002 – 2012.
I am a board member of SIPS (Saanich Inlet Protection Society); call me if you would like to become a member.
I currently teach English and Business to refugees at a language school in town and if elected, will reduce or leave my position.
I have two rescue dogs named Penny and Darla and a kind elderly grey horse named Sterling; I enjoy gardening and many sports.
I love Central Saanich and have no aspirations to run for higher political positions; being locally active is the most effective way to benefit my community.
I have written six books (publisher: Touchwood Editions) and am working on a seventh, the title is Keep The Moon On Your Left.
